The short version

  • We never store your photos. Not the original, not the restored version.
  • We don't sell personal data or use advertising cookies. We use Google Analytics, with a consent banner in the EU/UK.
  • No account is needed. Paid HD access uses a random licence key, not your identity.

What happens to your photo

  1. In your browser: the photo is resized to at most 2,000 px and re-encoded, which removes EXIF metadata such as GPS location and camera details.
  2. On our server: it is held in memory only (never written to disk), checked, and sent to our AI processor, fal.ai, which runs the restoration models. The restored image comes back, we make your preview, and both images are discarded when the response is sent. Nothing from the photo is logged.
  3. The HD version: to let you unlock HD without us keeping your photo, the full-size restore is encrypted with a random key and sent to your browser, which keeps it (in this browser's storage) for 24 hours. We keep only the key, which is useless without the encrypted file you hold, and delete it after 24 hours. When you download HD, your browser sends the encrypted file back; we decrypt it in memory, enhance it with fal.ai and send it straight back to you.
  4. fal.ai processes each request under its own privacy policy. We ask for results inline where the model supports it, and we never keep or share result links. Photos are not used by us to train models.

What we collect

  • Free-use limits: to limit free restores to 3 a day, we set a random device ID cookie and count requests per keyed hash of your IP address (never the raw IP). The hashes are cleared every day, so none is kept longer than 24 hours.
  • Licences: after checkout we store a licence record: a random licence key, your Stripe customer and subscription IDs, subscription status, HD photo credits and how many HD photos were used this month. A signed cookie remembers your licence on this device.
  • Payments: handled by Stripe. We receive your email and payment status from Stripe; we never see your card number.
  • Usage counters: counts and costs only (for example, restores per day), never images, file names or form fields.
  • Contact form: your name, email and message are sent to our support inbox, used only to reply, and not stored in our database or logs.
  • In your browser only: your restores (for 24 hours, so you can return from checkout) and your cookie choice. Clearing your browser data removes them.
  • Server logs: our host may keep standard logs (IP address, user agent) for security for a short period.

Analytics and cookies

We use Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC) to understand which pages and tools are used. It collects pseudonymous usage data: pages viewed, approximate location (derived from your IP address, which Google Analytics does not store), device and browser type, referrer, and anonymous events such as "restore started", "preview downloaded", "HD downloaded", "upgrade clicked", "checkout started" and "purchase" (plan, amount and an order reference). We never send your photos, file names, email address or licence key to Google. Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (_ga, _ga_*) that last up to 2 years. Advertising features are off.

  • EU/EEA, UK and Switzerland: analytics is off by default (Google Consent Mode v2). A small banner asks for consent; analytics cookies are set only if you click Accept.
  • Other regions (including the US): analytics is on by default. You can opt out any time.
  • Opt out: use "Cookie settings" in the footer, the Google Analytics opt-out add-on, or block cookies in your browser. The tool works the same either way.

Your rights

You can ask us to access, correct or delete personal data we hold (for example, a licence record or a contact message) by emailing support@photorestorationfree.com. US residents, including California residents under the CCPA/CPRA, and EU/UK users under the GDPR can exercise these rights at any time.

Children

The service is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
